Artificial intelligence, particularly large language models like ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity, has quickly become one of the most talked-about technologies across professions, generations and industries.
In real estate, AI has been a frequent topic of discussion since OpenAI released ChatGPT to the public in late 2022. Since then, I’ve attended countless roundtables, summits and conference sessions focused on how AI can help professionals work more efficiently and streamline the everyday tasks that consume so much of the workday.
For Realtors, that’s especially important. As independent contractors, many are responsible for every aspect of running their business — from marketing and social media to scheduling, client communication and transaction
management. AI has the potential to save valuable time by helping with many of those routine tasks.
I agree with much of what I’ve heard over the past few years. AI is an incredibly useful tool that can make us more efficient and productive. Like so many technological advances before it, I see it as another resource that helps us work smarter, not a replacement for the work itself.
Speaking from my own experience as a Realtor and small business owner, however, I also believe there are parts of this profession that technology simply can't replicate. Over the last decade in this industry, I've learned that real estate is built on trust, relationships and human connection. Those qualities become even more important during one of the biggest financial and emotional decisions a person will ever make.
AI will continue to evolve, and I have no doubt it will become an even more valuable part of how we do business. The professionals who embrace it thoughtfully will likely gain an advantage by freeing up more time for the work that matters most. But at the end of the day, no algorithm can replace empathy, local expertise, sound judgment or the trust built through personal relationships. Those have always been the foundation of a successful real estate business, and I believe they always will be.
