Miley Cyrus is stepping into a new era with a shorter name and a louder sound.
The singer, now styling herself simply as Miley, announced her 10th studio album, "BASS PERSUADES," due Sept. 18. The project arrives wrapped in stark black-and-white and bright red visuals, leather, electric guitars and an unmistakable rock 'n' roll attitude.
"Music takes hold of us," Cyrus wrote in her album announcement. "We feel it, sing it, sometimes dance to it, let it out and carry on."
She described music as "powerful, vulnerable, sweet and strong."
The visual direction suggests a return to the rock-inflected world Cyrus has visited throughout her career. She has covered Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Blondie, Nirvana, the Cranberries, Metallica and Joan Jett, while
her 2020 album "Plastic Hearts" fully embraced distorted guitars and arena-rock energy, including appearances from Jett and Billy Idol.
That connection also links back to Parton.
Though Parton initially questioned whether she belonged in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, she accepted the honor in 2022 and later released her rock album, "Rockstar." She and Cyrus famously opened their televised New Year's Eve special with a swaggering rendition of Joan Jett & the Blackhearts' "I Love Rock 'n' Roll."
Cyrus will bring "BASS PERSUADES" to the Hollywood Bowl on Oct. 16 and 18, with Model/Actriz joining as special guest.
"It's been a while," she wrote. "LA is my heart and I'm bringing it home."

The album announcement comes only days after the death of her godmother Dolly Parton.
Parton died after a brief battle with cancer in Nashville on Aug. 25 at age 80. Cyrus shared a deeply personal tribute, writing that the magnitude of the loss felt too intimate to fully explain in public.
"Our most sacred moments were private and they’ll stay there behind the stage, beneath the glamour & between our hearts," she wrote.
Cyrus said one of her final conversations with Parton centered on "music and metamorphosis," a phrase that now feels inseparable from the start of this new chapter.
She also shared what she believes Parton would have urged her to do: sit with the grief, turn it into a song and keep moving.
"I have an angel by my side," Cyrus wrote. "I always have."
