The NASCAR Bristol night race delivered as only it can on Sept. 19.
The post-race scene was pandemonium at Bristol Motor Speedway after the Bass Pro Shops Night Race. Race winner Joey Logano jumped out of his car to a chorus of boos, negated only by the cheers from fans watching the pit-road fight between Carson Hocevar and Ryan Blaney.
For about 30 seconds, the noise bounced from Logano-aimed boos to cheers at Blaney and Hocevar.
That's what happens when championship stakes are mixed up in Saturday night short-track racing.

Winner: Joey Logano's Chase hopes
Amongst the chaos, Joey Logano (when not directly involved
in the chaos) made a big move in the NASCAR Chase.
As Carson Hocevar and Ty Gibbs leaned on each other for the lead, Logano drove under the two youngsters to take the lead and pull away with seven laps to go.

Logano won the race and took 73 out of a maximum 75 points out of the Bristol race weekend, moving to third in points.
Logano was in 20th in points two months ago, with his Chase chances in doubt.
No one is doubting him now.
Winner: Carson Hocevar as NASCAR's top antagonist
Carson Hocevar is now cemented as NASCAR's No. 1 antagonist after the Bristol night race chaos with Ryan Blaney.
With 44 laps to go, Hocevar and Ryan Blaney were battling for position inside the top five. Hocevar got a run off of turn 4 and set Blaney up for a crossover move from top to bottom. Blaney made a defensive move into turn 1, and Hocevar didn't lift.
Blaney spun as a result of the contact, hitting the wall and needed towed to the garage, ending his race.
"I wasn't trying to wreck him," Hocevar said to USA Network after the race. "It just looked like to me — I got a run and kinda went left, and he spun. And I spun him."
After the race, Blaney made a beeline for Hocevar on pit road. Hocevar was a willing fighter as Blaney initiated contact with a stiff push. Hocevar then threw a couple punches before Blaney tripped over some Spire crew members.
Blaney made another charge at Hocevar and threw a couple more punches before the fracas cleared off.

It was the first real physical altercation between Hocevar and another Cup Series competitor despite more than a couple on-track disagreements over the last couple seasons across the field. The fight footage will live on in NASCAR's promotional material for years to come.
Even to the end of the race, Hocevar's antagonizing likely cost him the victory. He and Ty Gibbs started to lean on each other after the final restart inside of the final 10 laps, allowing Logano to scoot by for the win. Hocevar was showing comparable speed and the ability to stay with Gibbs late, and both drivers certainly could have left it later than seven laps to go before throwing proverbial elbows.
Instead, Hocevar finished third while Gibbs ended up fifth.
Loser: Ryan Blaney's championship hopes
Among the thrown punches and words is a massive slip for Blaney in his pursuit for a second Cup Series title.
Blaney, who led a race-high 202 laps before his night ended, lost somewhere between 25 and 30 points as a result of his 33rd-place finish, a second straight poor result after a DNF last week at Gateway. Blaney is now sixth in points, 52 points off the lead.
Maybe his post-crash interview should have been a hint as to how he might handle the dustup with Hocevar.
"Oh, I don't (expletive) know," Blaney said to USA Network when asked about who was to blame. "I got crashed."
Blaney was a willing fighter and didn't shy away from the bout. But he certainly would have rather bagged a good points day.
Loser: Chase Elliott in the summer
Autumn officially begins on Sept. 22, and it won't be soon enough for Chase Elliott and the No. 9 Hendrick Motorsports team.
In 12 summer races from Naval Base Coronado to Bristol, Elliott earned a single top-10 finish and led 43 laps. He fell from fourth to eighth in the regular season standings and is now 12th following a 23rd-place finish at Bristol.
Elliott started outside of the top 25 via the rule book metric as qualifying was canceled, set mostly by his DNF at Gateway.
The No. 9 struggled to keep track position in Stage 2 after staying out, eventually falling three laps down.
His night also included a late-race spin to further the malaise.
Elliott is 117 points behind teammate and points leader Kyle Larson in the Chase standings. His championship hopes are done.
