Hurricane Isaias made landfall with 105-mph winds at 8:30 p.m. Oct. 9 near Destin, Florida. The storm has since been downgraded but is having impacts in Nashville.
"Due to incoming weather from Hurricane Isaias, Making Strides of Nashville on Saturday, October 10, has been canceled for participant safety," an announcementfrom organizers said regarding a planned event benefiting the American Cancer Society. "Thank you for understanding. More information will follow in the coming days."
Columbia Pride organizers had similar news.
"It is with heavy hearts that we announce the cancellation of the 2026 Columbia TN Pride Festival, scheduled for .. October 10, at Riverwalk Park," the group said in a social media post. "This decision was not made lightly.
We have spent the past several days closely monitoring the weather and consulting with local emergency management officials, holding onto hope that we could move forward with this year's celebration. Unfortunately, the anticipated weather conditions have left us with no choice but to prioritize the safety of our attendees, vendors, volunteers, performers, and community."
The Tennessee Department of Transportation got busy ahead of the storm.
"Crews are clearing drains and checking trouble spots to ensure water can drain off the roadways properly and ensuring potentially needed," the agency said in a social media post on Oct. 9.
Tailgating ahead of the Vanderbilt-Ole Miss game will be a greatly downgraded affair.
"Due to wind forecasts, fans are strongly discouraged from setting up portable tents for Saturday’s football pregame activities against Ole Miss," read a message from Vanderbilt. "Parking lots will open at 8 a.m. and garages open at 10 a.m. Vandyville pregame fan activities are moving forward as scheduled."
A message from the private service that handles logistics for tailgate club members echoed that caution.
"We apologize for the inconvenience," it read. "This decision was made for the safety of our tailgating guests because of the wind and tents we use in Vandyville."
A number of events have announced new dates.
Celebration of Courage has been postponed to 8 a.m. Oct. 31 at Cornelia Fort Airpark. The run and fun walk event benefitsPark Center, a local non-profit which has offered pathways to independence for people facing mental health and substance use issues. NES urges caution.
"Hurricane Isaias is forecast to impact the NES service territory on Saturday, October 10," an advisory from NES read. "For your safety, stay away from standing water near electrical equipment. Do not walk, swim, or drive through floodwater. Stay at least 30 feet away from downed power lines and call 9-1-1 immediately."
