Cedric Gray injury: Titans LB sustains concussion symptoms in UTV accident
A source told The Tennessean that alcohol is not thought to have been involved in the accident, which was sustained over the holiday weekend while the Titans did not have practice.
The Titans' season starts on Sept. 13. Gray is expected to be one of the Titans' three
starting linebackers, though the team is deep at the position. In addition to Gray, the Titans feature returning contributors Cody Barton and James Williams Sr., as well as second-round pick Anthony Hill Jr. With linebacker Dorian Mausi on injured reserve to start the year, the team also added former Arizona Cardinals linebacker Owen Pappoe off waivers.
That said, Gray was expected to be the centerpiece of the Titans' linebacker room. His 160 tackles led the Titans and ranked fifth in the NFL. That mark also landed three shy of the Titans' single-season record.
NFL concussion protocol and Cedric Gray
Per the rules of the NFL's concussion protocol, Gray cannot be permitted to return to league activity until he is cleared by independent medical consultants and a club physician. Players are tested cognitively against a baseline test that's established in the offseason.
A third-year linebacker out of UNC, Gray was one of the Titans' emergent stars in 2025. Along with Williams and right tackle JC Latham, Gray is one of three projected starters who the Titans selected in the 2024 NFL Draft.
