Tennessee Titans coach Robert Saleh reaffirmed Cam Ward as the team's starting quarterback following an 0-5 start in Ward's second season.
Ward threw for 170 yards on 36 attempts with an interception as
the Titans scored three points in a 26-3 loss to the previously winless Houston Texans. Ward was also sacked four times.
The Titans have scored an average of 11.6 points per game through five weeks, and Ward has struggled to hit explosive plays or string together consistent drives.
"No, not Cam," Saleh said about considering a QB change.
Tennessee has veteran QB Mitch Trubisky, with starting experience in the NFL, sitting behind Ward. But the Titans continue to back the No. 1 pick of the 2025 draft — at least through the end of the year.
"Cam's our starting quarterback," Saleh said. "We're going to give him every opportunity to be successful this year, and we're going to continue working with him, grinding with him and trying to help him get better."
What Cam Ward said about why he should continue as Titans starting QB
Ward made his first true defense after the Texans loss.
"My process," Ward said. "What I'm willing to sacrifice each and every week to get to (be) the player that I want to be but also the player that the team needs and what the organization needs to win games.
"I love the criticism. I love everything that comes with the quarterback territory. At the end of the day, it's the best position in the world. Stuff goes the right way, you take all the credit. Stuff goes the wrong way, you take all the blame. So, I know I'm capable of this position. I have the right guys around me to uplift me and myself to uplift them, and we're going to eventually put it together."
