The article "Democrat Jerri Green asked independent Lauren Pinkston to drop out of TN governor race
" shows the arrogance and hypocrisy of both the Republican and Democrat nominees for governor.Democrat Jerri Green arrogantly feels that voters are not entitled to consider Lauren Pinkston’s qualifications for the office since she is “only” an Independent and may pull votes away from Green in what Green seems to think is the only race that matters: Democrat vs. Republican.
Sen. Blackburn has shown her hypocritical side, saying
she wouldn’t debate her Democratic opponent because she doesn’t want “to give air to a socialist candidate.” This, from one of the staunchest supporters of President Trump, a president who is responsible for the federal government becoming part owner of some 30 private and publicly traded companies.
It is time to give Independent candidates a chance to present their ideas and positions to the voters. I suggest the major publications in Tennessee stand up for the voting public and sponsor a televised debate, with all candidates invited.
Those who elect not to attend can have their nameplate positioned in front of an empty chair. This would serve as a reminder to viewers that these individuals feel that facing the voters is not worth their time.
