Traffic on Interstate 65 south of the city loop is about to get messier.
"We're beginning work on the reconstruction of the Hamilton Avenue bridge deck over I-65 near Wedgewood Houston in Nashville," Tennessee
Department of Transportation spokesperson Erin Zeiglersaid on X.
The project will span multiple months.
"To complete this bridge deck construction by the end of this year, demolition must begin as soon as possible, and a full closure of I-65 is required for this demolition," the department said. "Traffic and event data were evaluated to determine the best possible weekend for the full closure of I-65."

Intermittent lane closures will start Oct. 8 on I-65, from the I-40 interchange at Exit 210 to near the I-440 interchange. Crews will shut down the southbound lanes as needed between 8 p.m. and midnight. Then there will be a total road closure for about 30 minutes after that. Occasional lane closures will resume from 12:30 a.m. to 5 a.m. Oct. 9.
The biggest impact will begin Oct. 16.
The interstate, in both directions, wil be completely shut down between 8 p.m. Oct. 16 to 5 a.m. Oct. 19 so crews can demolish the bridge.
After that weekend, there will be nightly lane closures between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. to build the new bridge, TDOT officials said.
"Message boards and overhead signage will be in place to alert motorists of the closures," the department said. "Motorists should plan for additional travel time and consider alternate routes. Local traffic may use Wedgewood Avenue (Exit 81) to access nearby local routes; however, motorists should anticipate heavy traffic and delays in the area."
TDOT hopes to have the project done by early December.
