Representatives of the Tennessee Department of Correction and members of the media are expected to hold a news conference following the planned execution of Anthony Darrell Hines sometime around 10 a.m. on Aug. 13. The execution is being held at Riverbend Maximum Security Institution in Nashville, Tennessee.
Hines was sentenced to death in 1986 for the March 3, 1985, murder of Catherine Jean Jenkins at the Cebon Motel in Kingston Springs, Tennessee. He has spent more than 40 years on Tennessee's death row. That time has included multiple post-conviction appeals, a resentencing and changes to the state's execution protocol.
Jenkins, 54, was working as a maid at the motel. On the day of the murder, she had a bag with $100 cash to make change for
guests who were checking out. Investigators said she was in the middle of cleaning room 21 when she was robbed of the cash and stabbed to death.

Jenkins, who lived in Fairview, Tennessee, is remembered as a a "good, Southern, Christian lady." She had three sons and one daughter, who was 22 at the time of the murder.
Hines, in his mid-20s and from Bowling Green, Kentucky, was a guest at the motel the night before Jenkins was killed. He stole Jenkins' silver 1980 Volvo, which was later recovered abandoned on Interstate 65. Hines has admitted to taking the car, but has maintained that he did not kill Jenkins.
Hines is one of several death row inmates who have sued TDOC over its lethal injection protocol, which was introduced last year. The plaintiffs argue TDOC is incapable of carrying out an execution that is not cruel and unusual.
The scheduled execution follows months of scrutiny and discussion over TDOC's execution protocol, which ramped up following the aborted execution of Tony Carruthers in May.
