Whether they’re cheering from the stands, supporting classmates or showing their school colors with pride, some students make school spirit impossible to miss.
The Tennessean Student of the Week’s latest poll recognizes students across Middle Tennessee who stand out for their enthusiasm, involvement and dedication to creating a positive school community.
Teachers, administrators, and faculty nominated six students for this week's poll, and now it's up to you to decide who wins. The poll is open through noon, Sept. 24. The link to vote is at the bottom of this story.
Here are the nominees for this week and what was said about each.
Juan Bolivar, Cheatham County Central High School
Cheatham County Central High School senior Juan Bolivar is "the epitome of school pride and spirit," said Cheatham County Central High School secretary
Kaye Spain.
Bolivar was described as an amazing person and a great student, academically, in behavior and in character. Bolivar plays on the basketball and soccer teams and leads both. He is always supportive of classmates in their athletic or academic endeavors and is always the loudest at a pep rally.
"Juan represents our staff and student body extremely well, and we proudly submit him as a nomination for this honor," Spain said.
Madisyn Kelley, Greenbrier High School
Greenbrier High School's Madisyn Kelley was nominated by her principal Katie Osborne for most school spirit.
Kelley was described as always full of energy and excitement at every school function and is always cheering her team and school on through the wins and the losses. She is a great leader and encourager to her teammates, classmates and anyone she sees.
"She is a ray of sunshine and is always wearing the biggest smile as she supports those around her," said Osborne.
Tristyn Burton, Riverdale High School
Riverdale High School's Tristyn Burton was nominated by Riverdale High School dance coach Ashley Polk.
Burton balances dual-enrollment courses, two jobs, studio dance, and her commitment to the Riverdale High School Dance Team. Despite her demanding schedule, she remains a dependable leader who works hard to keep the team encouraged, connected, and unified.
She choreographed Riverdale's most recent Michael Jackson pep rally performance, which became a favorite among our students and brought tremendous energy and excitement to the school, Polk noted. She was described as a person who represents Riverdale with pride, leads by example, and continually uses her talents to bring our school community together.
"Tristyn’s school spirit truly shines through her creativity and dedication," Polk said. "Tristyn is an excellent example of what it means to be a Riverdale Warrior, and I am proud to nominate her for this recognition."
Trenton Lich, Rockvale High School
Rockvale High School's Trenton Lich was nominated by his principal Dr. Meagan Turnbow.
"From the moment he walks through the school doors in the morning until the last bell at 3:30 (and probably even beyond that), Trent Lich, is Rockvale High School's most spirited student," Turnbow said.
Lich was described as someone who greets everyone with a huge smile and a loud, booming "Go Rockvale" everywhere he goes, never leaving without telling you to "have a great Rockvale High Day," Turnbow said.
She added that Lich loves to show his spirit at all times- from learning all the cheerleaders' chants to being the loudest at pep rallies and games- all while decked out in Rockvale apparel head to toe. Because of this school spirit, he brings a smile to all he is around.
Stockton Smith, Station Camp High School
Stockton Smith was nominated as the student with the most school spirit at Station Camp High School by Lisa Bain, Station Camp's Student Success and Personal Finance teacher.
Smith is a Student Section "Tribe" leader, and always one step ahead in planning the next event, social media post, hype reel and game chants, Bain said. Smith is also a student-athlete, playing baseball, and a spirited leader in school, at pep rallies and games, she added.
Kyrick Wallace, Stewart County High School
Stewart County High School's Kyrick Wallacel is instrumental in leading the student section during extracurricular activities, according to Stewart County High School principal William Gray.
"He is always going above and beyond to demonstrate school spirit and use game momentum to help encourage our teams and charge up our fans," Gray said.
