Wilson United Soccer Club stopped play and called police Oct. 24 after a coach reported a bullet flew past his head at the Lebanon Soccer Complex as games were being played and with hundreds of players and parents in attendance.
No injuries were reported, according to the Lebanon Police Department.
The soccer club notified Wilson County Sheriff's Office deputies, stopped play and cleared the fields, according to a statement from Wilson United.
Both the police department and sheriff’s office responded to the scene, and games resumed once law enforcement determined the situation was safe.
Wilson United estimated 500 or more youth players and parents were at the Lebanon Soccer Complex at the time of the reported gunfire.
The complex, located at 1455
Murfreesboro Road, is within Lebanon city limits. Police, however, believe the gunfire came from around the Walnut Grove Road area outside city limits, Lebanon Police Department spokesperson Zach Patton said.
Projectiles were not found on the field, Patton said.
"Everybody reacted accordingly and got off the field, got into their cars or sought shelter until the police cleared the area," Wilson United Soccer Club President Al Di Pasqua said.
Efforts to reach Wilson County Sheriff's Office representatives about the origins of the shooting were unsuccessful prior to publication.
