What is the story about?

While Tropical Storm Dolly fizzles out in the Atlantic, bringing no rain to Tennessee, things are about to heat up in Nashville.

The fourth named stormof the Atlantic hurricane season spun up just days after Dolly Parton died in Nashville. It was a coincidence, as storm names are picked years in advance.

Tropical Storm Dolly produced showers and thunderstorms from Puerto Rico to the Virgin Islands.

The storm is expected to skirt the southern tip of Florida, but her weakened reach won't extend past there.

Meanwhile, Nashville is bracing for another bout of extreme heat.

"Highs are already well into the 90s and we will see that continue this week as the ridge remains overhead," the Nashville office of the National Weather Service said.

Meteorologists expect the peak to hit Sept. 2 and Sept. 3 with highs in the mid to upper 90s and spots in triple digits. It's likely the weather service will issue a heat advisory, which requires a threshold of 105-degree heat indexes, for those two days.

"Once you add in humidity with dew points in the 70s we will see afternoon heat index values push into the triple digits and will be as hot as 109 Wednesday and Thursday," the weather service said. "This heat will bring major to extreme heat risk by the middle of the week."

And what about the Labor Day weekend? Yeah, that's going to be hot, too.

There will be a slight cooldown Sept. 4, but "it will still be on the hot side over the holiday weekend but highs should fall back into the low to mid 90s," the weather service said.

"Highs will continue to cool into early next week into the upper 80s to lower 90s which is getting a little closer to seasonal norms," the weather service said.
