Vanderbilt baseball has hired Jeremiah Boyd as a catching coach, he announced on Instagram.
"Thank you, Coach Corbin and Vanderbilt University for bringing us back home!" Boyd wrote. "Excited for the opportunity to be the Catching Coach and help continue to build this elite program!"
Boyd played at Presbyterian and Middle Tennessee. He played at Presbyterian from 2019-22 and at Middle Tennessee in 2023, then signed as an undrafted free agent with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
On Aug. 24, Boyd was reported as retired from professional baseball. He announced he was taking the job with the Commodores on Aug. 29.

Boyd was filling a new position or replacing a departed staff member
According to his LinkedIn, Boyd has previous experience coaching catchers at two different training facilities − D-BAT Concord in North Carolina and BC Athletics, which is in Knoxville.
In 2026, Vanderbilt finished 15th out of 16 teams in the SEC in D1Baseball's defensive runs saved metric for catchers. A primary issue was pitch framing, as all four catchers on the roster struggled to generate called strikes for their pitchers, which exacerbated the strike-throwing issues for a staff that walked 271 batters in 502⅓ innings as the Commodores missed the NCAA tournament.
