A Tennessee inmate, accused of stabbing a correctional officer to death at another prison earlier this year, has died at the Riverbend Maximum Security Institution.
Reginald Steed, who was serving a 27-year sentence for aggravated assault, especially aggravated robbery and attempted voluntary manslaughter, was pronounced dead at 12:40 a.m. Sept. 22, according to a statement from the Tennessee Department of Correction.
Prison officials did not say how Steed died, only that his death was under investigation.
Steed was also facing a charge of first-degree murder after Dustin Pedigo was fatally wounded in a stabbing at the Morgan County Correctional Complex on Feb. 24. Steed was transferred to Riverbend in Nashville after the stabbing and placed under
maximum custody.
