Memorial services for Nashville civic and business leader Jamie D. Isabel will be held Aug. 20 and 21.
Isabel, 61, who died of a heart attack Aug. 10, "made a meaningful impact on Nashville and the community he served," Tennessee State University President Dwayne Tucker said in a statement.
"As a proud TSU alumnus, successful entrepreneur and former Metro Council member, he made a meaningful impact on Nashville and the community he served," Tucker said.
Isabel's entrepreneurial spirit bloomed early.
"At the age of 13, he asked his mother and great-aunts for a lawnmower — not for leisure, but for business,"his family-placed obituary read. "He wanted to earn his own income, hire his friends, and pay his tithes and offering.
"While his peers worked
an entire week at McDonald’s to earn $30, Jamie learned he could earn the same amount in just a few hours," it read. "It was the beginning of a lifetime of leadership, innovation, and economic independence."
Isabel mentored dozens of business owners and young politicians.
A key fundraiser and donor for TSU, his alma mater, he served on Metro Council from 2003 to 2007 and launched a successful promotional products company, Dalmatian Creative Agency, which operates a store, Nashville Threads, on the C concourse in Nashville International Airport.
He served in various leadership capacities while in office and was active with a number of civic, educational and community groups including the Watkins College of Art & Design, Davidson County Residential Recovery Court and the Tennessee State University Alumni Association, his obituary read.
"He served with honor," it read. "He led with conviction. His legacy is national, his impact is enduring, and his memory is indelible, and will stand as a testament to a life lived in service to others."
Visitation, funeral and burial arrangements have been set by Lewis & Wright Funeral Directors in Nashville. The gatherings are open to the public.

- Visitation, 11 a.m. to noon Aug. 21 at Temple Church.
- Celebration of life, noon Aug. 21 at Temple Church.
- Burial, 2 p.m. Aug. 21 at Greenwood Cemetery Mausoleum, 1428 Elm Hill Pike.
