The search for a boater who went missing on Aug. 17 has ended after his body was found on Percy Priest Lake, according to a news release from the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.
Officers with the agency discovered the body of 72-year-old Phillip Green on Aug. 19 shortly after 3:20 p.m., following a missing person report made by a woman who was with Green when he disappeared.
According to the release, Green and the woman were swimming near a pontoon boat they had taken to the lake when wind caused it to drift away. With only a pool noodle between them, Green then swam towards the boat without it before going underwater and failing to emerge.
The agency covered 200 to 300 acres of the lake in search of Green over the next two days, and when
a general location was pinpointed using a fish sonar device on Aug. 19, divers with the Nashville Office of Emergency Management were able to recover Green's body.
The accident marks the 14th boating-related death in Tennessee this year.
