Hamlin held on to the NASCAR Cup points lead following a chaotic Enjoy Illinois 300 on Sept. 13 at World Wide Technology Raceway.

Hamlin's ninth-place finish was most notable in that he largely avoided the race-altering crashes all throughout the 300-mile event. The race had 18 cautions, with crashes ranging from bumping and banging gone awry to brake rotor failures.

Kyle Larson moved into second place in the points standings after winning for the first time in more than a year.
