Zeke Moore, an NFL Pro Bowler and one of the Houston Oilers’ all-time great cornerbacks, has died, according to the Houston Chronicle. He was 82.
Moore played his whole career with the Oilers (1967-77), was an AFL All-Star before the league merged with the NFL and played in the first NFL Pro Bowl in 1970.
He finished his 11-year career with 24 interceptions for 444 yards and two touchdowns. He was also a good kick returner, logging 1,618 return yards; that included a career-best 787 yards in 1968.
In 1970, Moore started all 14 games and intercepted six passes. The Oilers’
best record during his tenure came in 1975 (10–4).
Moore, a Tuskegee, Alabama, native starred at Lincoln Memorial University and was selected in the fifth round of the 1967 AFL Draft. He appeared in 145 regular-season professional games and was selected by fans for the Houston Oilers’ 30th anniversary team in 1989.
