Nashville police officers were fired upon at the Royal Inn on Dickerson Pike after investigating a stolen vehicle, according to a department spokesperson.
Officers initially entered a hotel room with three occupants, two of whom exited without incident, according to the spokesperson. The third occupant shot at police multiple times, and two officers subsequently returned fire. The officers were able to take the third occupant into custody.
No injuries resulted, although one person was taken to the hospital to treat a potential overdose.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation will not be examining the shooting, according to the spokesperson, but at least one ATF agent was on scene.
"We are very lucky that nobody was shot," the spokesperson said. "Especially
given the fact that those officers, in order to protect their own safety, had to return fire."
