The City of Brentwood plans to honor country music legend Dolly Parton with a screening of one of her most iconic films.
"We at the City of Brentwood were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Dolly Parton — a Country Music Icon, dedicated philanthropist, and longtime Brentwood resident,” the city said in a statement.
Parton first moved to Brentwood in the early 1970s. Her estate, known as the Willow Lake Plantation, was also the site of a makeshift memorial after the announcement of her passing.
"As someone who inspired millions around the world with her music and her giving heart, she was a blessing to our community,” said Brentwood Mayor Nelson Andrews, after the announcement of her passing.
As one way to honor Dolly Parton, the city has
planned to host a special tribute at 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, with a free showing of "Steel Magnolias" at Crockett Park.
The city has secured the rights to show the film and there will be food trucks. In celebration of this one-time event, the city is encouraging residents to wear pink.
"She leaves an enduring example of compassion, service, and generosity that will continue to inspire people for years to come. She will be deeply missed by the Brentwood community and by admirers around the world."
