The Big One doesn't usually happen at the 1.25-mile World Wide Technology Raceway in Madison, Illinois, just west of St. Louis.
And major accidents don't usually happen on pit road, blocking the entire pit lane.
But that was the case in the Nu Way 225 NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series race on Sept. 12 during pit stops under the stage break caution on Lap 49.
Rajah Caruth spun around at the entry of pit road next to Brent Crews' stall, and the stack-up collected Nick Sanchez, Harrison Burton, Anthony Alfredo and Jeremy Clements, among others.
Those cars blocked the pit lane, with the Caruth and Sanchez cars making contact with Crews' car and a couple of Crews' crew members.

The CW broadcast reported that Crews' crew members were OK despite the contact.
Brandon Jones also had contact and suffered major damage to the front end.
More than half of the field had to stop behind the blocked pit lane, and the red flag was displayed for several minutes as pit road was cleaned up.
Sanchez, Clements and Burton all went behind the wall.
