Target and Home Depot have announced opening dates for new stores being built in Cookeville that will anchor a new shopping center.
The Willows is the name of the new shopping center on South Willow Avenue just off Interstate 40.
Target is scheduled to open Oct. 11, according to the company.
Home Depot will hold its grand opening Oct. 8.
The Home Depot will also host a community event open to the public called Neighborhood Night on Oct. 7. Both events will offer food trucks, live music and giveaways, according to the company.
"They are two retailers our community has wanted for years," said Cookeville Planning Director Jon Ward.
The Willows has also been targeted for an In-N-Out Burger, which has preliminary site plan approval, Ward said. In-N-Out has not
yet obtained a building permit.
McDonald's and Chewy have obtained building permits for the shopping center, Ward said.
The 128,000-square-foot Target store will create more than 150 jobs and include a Starbucks Café and CVS Pharmacy. Services include Drive Up, Order Pickup and same-day delivery.
"I think the Willows opens us up to a lot of other retail possibilities since we convinced these two big box retailers that we are more than a county of 85,000, we are a region of 350,000," Putnam County Mayor Randy Porter said.
Target is building a new store in Lebanon on Willard Hagan Drive and Hagan Way next to a recently opened Sam's Club.
The future Target in Lebanon is on the company’s online list of upcoming store openings, but a specific opening date has not been set.
