Columbus police have closed a portion of South Hamilton Road on the city's East Side due to buckling pavement caused by a water main break.
Police received a report of the water main breaking just after 1 p.m. Sept. 4, according to George Zonders, a spokesperson for Columbus Water and Power. Police reported a "large amount of water" and pavement buckling in the area of South Hamilton and Amesbury roads, north of East Livingston Avenue.
Personnel from CWP arrived on scene between 15 and 20 minutes later and were able to contain the leak to the northbound curb lane of South Hamilton Road, just south of Amesbury Road, according to Zonders.
The northbound curb lane of South Hamilton Road is closed, but traffic is still flowing through the left northbound lane,
Zonders said.
Zonders said it was a 6-inch water main that broke. A crew from CWP will repair the water main early on the morning of Sept. 5, Zonders said.
