The Obamacare Death Panels are coming to get us
Ever since I turned 70, I’ve been living in fear of that knock on the door from a representative of the Obamacare Death Panels, saying they had decided it was time for me to go, and I had no say in it. I know it’s coming. All the Republicans warned us about it during the Obamacare debates.
I mean, Republicans wouldn’t lie to us, would they? Saddam Hussein did have a WMD, right? COVID-19 really did disappear in April, and we all went to church on Easter, right? Trump really did win the 2020 election, right? Tylenol really does cause Autism, right?
We “obliterated” Iran’s nuclear weapons program? Then “obliterated” it again several months later? The Strait of Hormuz
is open, and we control it, right? We’ve “won” the "war" in Iran, right? Several times, right?
Gas is down to $2.50 a gallon? Groceries are more affordable now? Trump won’t get us involved in any foreign wars, right? Roe v. Wade is settled law, and we’ll never overturn it, right? Jan. 6 was just a normal tourist day at the Capitol, right?
I mean, Republicans would never lie to us. Right?

Parents need support
Re "College students can't read, but not because they're lazy," Aug. 28: The line that stood out most for me in the recent opinion column by Jessica Johnson was, “To begin to shift this trend of tech negatively impacting intellectual skills, parents have an important role to play ...”
Yep, totally agree! This is also a major theme in two recent bestsellers, “The Anxious Generation” as well as “The Collapse of Parenting.”
So my question is: How do we encourage parents to realize just how important being able to set tech guidelines with kids is these days? The parents that know this probably don’t need to read these books, and the parents that need to probably won’t, or just don’t have the time or energy.
I would like to suggest maybe some school groups, churches or day care providers could offer some classes or seminars to support parents? I know a lot of grandparents and aunties who would be glad to help facilitate them.
