A 27-year-old man has been charged with murder in connection with a fatal shooting on Columbus’ West Side, police said in a media release.
Zackary Burroughs was charged following the shooting, which was reported at 7:32 p.m. Sept. 21 in the 200 block of North Wheatland Avenue, just north of East Broad Street.
Officers found an unresponsive adult suffering from a gunshot wound, according to the Columbus police news release. The victim was taken to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center and pronounced dead at 8 p.m.
Police said Burroughs and the victim were involved in a physical altercation before the shooting. Authorities have tentatively identified the victim but are withholding the person’s name until relatives are notified.
Police did not release additional
details about what led to the altercation. The investigation remains ongoing.
The shooting marks Columbus’ 58th homicide of the year, according to police data.
