Columbus police have identified a 62-year-old man who was shot during an altercation with another man on the city's West Side and later died at a local hospital.
Just after 7:30 p.m. Sept. 21, Columbus police said officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 200 block of North Wheatley Avenue. On arrival, officers found Kenneth Skeens suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest, police said.
Skeens was transported in critical condition to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center, Downtown, where he was pronounced dead at 8 p.m., according to police.
Zackary Burroughs, 27, of Grove City, was taken into custody by police and charged with murder in Skeens' death, according to court records.
According to a criminal complaint filed by a city homicide detective,
multiple witnesses at the scene said that Burroughs and Skeens were in some kind of altercation when Burroughs pulled out a gun and shot Skeens in the chest. The complaint does not detail what the altercation was about.
Burroughs is being held in the Franklin County Corrections Center. He has an arraignment scheduled for Sept. 23, according to court records.
