Saint Agatha Churchin Upper Arlington is mourning after one of its priests died from injuries sustained when he was struck by a vehicle while he was out for a walk.
Monsignor John G. Johnson, 77, was struck by a vehicle at Tremont and Ridgecliff roads on the morning of Sept. 29, according to a media release from Upper Arlington police. Johnson was transported in critical condition to a local hospital, where he passed away on the night of Sept. 30, police said.
The church said that Johnson was out on a walk when the accident happened. Upper Arlington police Sgt. Bryan McKean said the accident is still under investigation and could not say if the driver of the vehicle would face charges.

Saint Agatha Church, located at 1860 Northam Road, will be
holding a visitation at 8:30 a.m. Oct. 10, according to the church's website. Columbus Catholic Diocese Bishop Earl K. Fernandes will be hosting the Funeral Mass and the Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 10 a.m. following the visitation.
"[Monsignor Johnson] was a source of spiritual guidance, and inspiration to countless parishioners throughout his years of priesthood, especially those here at St. Agatha," the church said in social media posts on Instagram and Facebook.
