On Sept. 16, 2026, Antonio Alvarez-Taylor, 20, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in connection with the Jan. 30, 2025, shooting death of his father, Frederick Taylor, 45.
Franklin County Common Pleas Judge Andria Noble sentenced Alvarez-Taylor to 5-7½ years in prison.

Son charged in father's fatal shooting, Columbus' 5th homicide of 2025
A 19-year-old Columbus man has been charged with murder in the shooting death of his father in the Hilltop area.
Columbus police responded just after 10 a.m. Thursday to a report of a shooting in the 600 block of Butler Avenue. Responding officers found Fredrick Taylor, 45, suffering from gunshot wounds, according to a release from city homicide detective.
Officers rendered aid, but Taylor was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:10
a.m. by Columbus Division of Fire medics.
Antiono Alvarez-Taylor, whom court records identify as Taylor's son, was taken into custody without incident and charged with murder, homicide detectives reported. No other suspects are believed involved, detectives said.
Columbus police have not released a motive for the shooting, which was the fifth homicide in 2025 in the city.
