A 20-year-old man died days after a shooting on Columbus' Southeast Side, police said.
Demontae Johnson died July 30, Columbus police said in a news release. He was fatally injured in a shooting just before 11 p.m. July 26 at the Leader Square Shopping Center on the 2500 block of Petzinger Road, according to court records.
A female witness said she and Treshon J. Corbin, 20, pulled up to one of the stores at the shopping center to make a purchase when Corbin got out of the car and began firing at Johnson, according to a probable cause affidavit.
There was an ongoing feud between the men's families, she told Columbus police detectives.
Corbin drove away in the witness' vehicle to an apartment on the 700 block of Champion avenue, then fled on foot,
according to the probable cause affidavit. The witness got out of the vehicle before he arrived at the apartment and returned to the shopping center to talk to responding officers.
Corbin was initially charged with felonious assault, but that was upgraded to a murder charge after Corbin died, police said. As of 11 a.m. July 31, Corbin remained at large.
