The trial for a tractor-trailer driver charged in a nine-vehicle crash in Delaware County that killed a family of three will continue Sept. 24 despite the Little Brown Jug, a major annual harness race held during the county fair.
County offices typically close at noon on the day of the Little Brown Jug, which can sometimes prompt court proceedings in cases to be paused for the day. Proceedings for Ngom's trial will continue Sept. 24, Delaware County Prosecutor's Office spokesperson Brandi Orsini said.
The trial may continue through Friday. Ngom has pleaded not guilty to three charges of aggravated vehicular homicide and four charges of vehicular assault in the fiery April 11 crash. His tractor-trailer crashed into traffic in the northbound lanes
of Interstate 71 near U.S. 36 that evening.
Nine vehicles were involved in the crash. Dr. Lynnea Soposki, 36, a veterinarian at the Muirfield Animal Hospital in Dublin, died in the crash along with her husband, Luke Soposki, 37, and their 1-year-old baby Logan. The family lived in Ashley.
Prosecutors say Ngom did not brake or attempt evasive action before he rear-ended a car in front of him.
Ngom also faces two lawsuits from the crash filed by the Soposki family and a woman who survived the crash, but was badly injured.
