The Franklin County Sheriff's Office is investigating after two vehicles were struck by gunfire Aug. 10 on Interstate 71 South near the Interstate 270 interchange and Stringtown Road.
No injuries were reported in the shooting incident, which occurred at 7:26 a.m., Franklin County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Jim Gilbert, who is in charge of investigations said. But Gilbert said investigators lack crucial information about any suspects.
An unknown suspect reportedly fired multiple rounds from a moving vehicle, striking two vehicles traveling southbound on I-71, according to a press release. One of those victims reported seeing a dark-colored SUV swerve onto the I-270 interchange at high speed. No further description of the suspect vehicle or license
plate is currently available.
Detectives with the sheriff's office are actively investigating the incident by reviewing surveillance videos from businesses and other locations in the surrounding area.
"All the normal things you would do in these kinds of investigations," Gilbert said. "But with very little information to go to in terms of suspect description."
Investigators were told there was no road rage precipitating the shooting, Gilbert said. The swerving vehicle could be a coincidence of someone who missed their lane and swerved and had "absolutely nothing to do with the situation," Gilbert said.
However, the connection will still be pursued as a lead, Gilbert said.
