The Cleveland Guardians kept rolling in the 2026 MLB Postseason and landed the first punch against the Tampa Bay Rays in the American League Championship Series.
Shocking the home Tampa crowd, the Guardians beat the Rays 7-3 to take a 1-0 lead in the ALCS. After giving up two runs in the first inning, the Guardians woke up on offense, tallying 14 hits and scoring at least one run in each of the last four innings.
Guardians rookie outfielder Chase DeLauter started scoring with a solo home run off Rays ace Drew Rasmussen in the sixth inning. Catcher Patrick Bailey evened the score an inning later with another solo shot.
DeLauter and third baseman Jose Ramirez led the team with three hits each. Designated hitter Jo Adell and first baseman Nathaniel

Guardians standout rookie Parker Messick will take the mound in Game 2. He pitched in Game 1 and Game 4 of the ALDS against the Chicago White Sox, going 6⅔ innings total with four earned runs, six hits, six walks and 11 strikeouts.
Messick was the Guardians ace throughout the 2026 season. He carried a 2.56 ERA through 32 starts and 186⅓ innings with 193 strikeouts. His ERA ranked third in the American League among starters.
Opposing Messick is Freddy Peralta, whom the Rays acquired from the New York Mets before the trade deadline. Peralta struggled mightily to start the season with a 4.99 ERA in 22 starts with the Mets. After the Rays, Peralta had a 3.25 ERA in 10 regular-season starts.
