A Columbus police officer has been released from the hospital after a chase ended in a crash in Franklinton.
Sgt. Joe Albert said the Ohio State Highway Patrol notified Columbus police at 1:19 a.m. Sept. 30 that it was chasing a vehicle near Interstate 70 East and Interstate 71 that was not stopping.
According to a crash report, a Columbus police cruiser was heading south on South Central Avenue near Broad Street toward the chase when the suspect's vehicle, a beige Ford Focus, sped out of an alley and crashed into the cruiser.
One officer was injured in the crash, Albert said. Medics took the officer to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center in stable condition.
Albert said the officer has since been released from the hospital.
After the vehicles collided,
they each hit utility poles and suffered disabling damage, according the crash report.
The Highway Patrol arrested two people in the Ford Focus after the crash. The driver of the car, a 19-year-old Columbus man, has been charged with felony fleeing and eluding, possessing marijuana, driving with a suspended license, failing to yield at a stop sign and failing to stay within marked lanes.
