On Sept. 8, 2026, Andre Franks, 21, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and having weapons under disability in connection with the Dec. 4, 2024, shooting death of Jaylon Reed, 23.
Franklin County Common Pleas Judge Richard Brown sentenced Franks to 19-24½ years in prison.

Columbus police charge suspect in fatal Near East Side shooting
Columbus police have charged a suspect in the shooting of a man on the Near East Side.
Andre Franks, 19, of the Olde Towne East neighborhood, had been arrested on Dec. 6 on unrelated charges. On Friday, Columbus police filed a murder charge against him.
Franks is accused of fatally shooting Jaylon Reed, 23, on Dec. 4. Reed was found shot around 11:15 p.m. near Cole Street and Rhodes Avenue, on the Near East Side.
Prosecutors said
Saturday in Franklin County Municipal Court that Franks tried to flee when police tried talking to him about the homicide. Prosecutors also alleged Franks told family members in recorded jail calls that he would leave the area if he made bail.
Franks' bond was set at $1 million.
