Ohio is officially making Sept. 25 Dolly Parton Day.
Gov. Mike DeWine and Lt. Gov. Jim Tressel signed a proclamation honoring the music superstar who died Aug. 25.
"Dolly Parton rose from humble beginnings to become one of the most beloved entertainers in the world and dedicated herself to literacy and children through her philanthropic work with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library," DeWine's office said in a statement
Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, a free book program for children from birth to age 5, is available to children in all 88 Ohio counties, and 64% of eligible children are currently enrolled.
The proclamation says more than 432,000 books are mailed to children
across Ohio each month. More than 1 million Ohio children have participated in the program.
The Sept. 25 designation is a reference to Parton's 1980 film and hit song, "9 to 5."
