Add injury to insult for the Crew in a humbling 2-1 loss to CF Montreal on Aug. 19 at ScottsMiracle-Gro Field, where defender Rudy Camacho left with a foot injury that put him on crutches.
Camacho would've missed the Crew's next game Aug. 22 in Nashville anyway, due to a one-game suspension for picking up his fifth yellow card of the season in MLS play, but his availability beyond that game is now uncertain.
"He felt a big impact [on his foot] and he has a bruise," Crew interim head coach Laurent Courtois said. "The pain was not going away, so we did precautionary stuff and didn't take any risk. We hope it's not going to be a big deal, but you never know."
Camacho, who has started
18 of the Crew's 19 MLS games, was replaced by Cesar Ruvalcaba in the 14th minute. Showing a slight limp, Camacho went to the bench for treatment, headed to the locker room and returned on crutches.
Camacho was also spotted limping in the locker room and again using crutches to leave the stadium. His injury is the only one Courtois was asked about, but defender Mo Farsi's status is also uncertain after he was subbed out in the 56th minute and headed straight to the locker room.
Farsi didn't need crutches or other medical devices, but his exit that early in the second half of a tied game is notable. The Crew's next practice is Aug. 21 at OhioHealth Performance Center. They're preparing to face Nashville on a quick turnaround.
Nashville tops the MLS Eastern Conference and leads the Supporters' Shield standings with a league-high 46 points, so it will be quite a challenge for the Crew (5-10-5, 20 points).
