An Illinois man faces a murder charge in connection with a double shooting that killed a man and wounded another adult on Columbus' Northeast Side. Police say the incident stemmed from a robbery attempt.
Cai McGee-Jones, 26, of Forest Park, Illinois, was arrested Aug. 4 and charged in connection with the fatal shooting of Mar Shawn Oliver Johnson, 23, and the wounding of a second adult on July 31 in the 4300 block of Le Marie Court, according to Columbus police.
Officers responded to that address on a report of a shooting and found Johnson and the second victim suffering from gunshot wounds. Johnson was transported to OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The second victim was hospitalized in stable condition.
According to a criminal complaint filed by city homicide detectives, the shooting stemmed from a robbery attempt. Detectives alleged in the complaint that McGee-Jones confessed to the robbery and shooting.
McGee-Jones is being held at the Franklin County jail. His next court date is scheduled for Aug. 5, according to court records.
