John Glenn Columbus International Airport's connections with the world have taken another step forward with the new nonstop flight to Frankfurt.
The Columbus Regional Airport Authority announced Oct. 19 that Lufthansa would begin the nonstop to Frankfurt, Germany, from John Glenn Columbus starting in May. That route will be Ohio's only nonstop flight to Germany.
The new flight will bring to a handful the list of international nonstop flights available at John Glenn Columbus and will be only the second with year-round service. The others are seasonal.
In addition, except for the Lufthansa flight, all of John Glenn Columbus' international flights are to North American nations.
The Columbus Regional Airport Authority, which operates Columbus' John
Glenn and Rickenbacker airports, is currently in the middle of constructing a new $2 billion terminal for John Glenn Columbus. The new terminal will feature two international gates with on-site customs facilities, and the terminal's gates will be able to accommodate larger aircraft, according to the airport authority. The new terminal is set to open in late 2028 or early 2029.
