The Franklin County Sheriff's Office has identified the driver of a Chevrolet pickup trick who died after crashing into the back of a tractor-trailer that was stopped on the side of a highway ramp in Hamilton Township.
Aaron Tinney, 49, of Hamilton Township, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on Oct. 1 on the side of the ramp from Interstate 270 East to U.S. 23 South, the sheriff's office said in a crash report with some information that varied from a press release issued previously.
Tinney was driving a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado on the U.S. 23 South ramp at around 5:50 p.m. when he lost control of the truck, according to the crash report. Tinney veered right and traveled off of the roadway, then overcorrected and ran into the back of the trailer,
the crash report states.
Tinney was the only occupant of the pickup and had to be extricated, according to the crash report. Medics with the Columbus Division of Fire pronounced Tinney dead at 6:06 p.m. The driver of the Freightliner was uninjured in the crash, the sheriff's office said.
The fatal collision is under investigation by the sheriff's office Crash Investigation Unit. Anyone with information on the crash can contact the unit at 614-525-6113.
