Nearly 70 flights at John Glenn Columbus International Airport are delayed, and several more were canceled Sept. 21 due to a Federal Aviation Administration equipment outage.
CMH had a total of 67 delayed flights and 14 canceled flights as of the afternoon of Sept. 21, according to the flight-tracking website FlightAware. The airport's flight status webpage showed delayed or canceled flights bound for Philadelphia, New York, Boston, Newark, and other northeastern airports.
The FAA issued a ground stop or ground delay on Sept. 21 for several of the Northeast's biggest flight hubs due to an equipment outage, including Newark Liberty International Airport, John F. Kennedy International Airport, Philadelphia International Airport, LaGuardia Airport and
Teterboro Airport, according to the National Airspace System Status.
"An Amtrak construction crew accidentally cut into a fiber line in New Jersey which caused a telecom outage and forced FAA to pause flights in the Northeast," Department of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy posted on X.
He said flights have resumed at LaGuardia and Philadelphia while they continue to be paused at Newark, JFK and Teterboro Airport in New Jersey.
United Airlines is experiencing the biggest disruption to their operations, with nearly 30% of flights canceled, representing 10 flights in their schedule. The airline only recorded two canceled flights on their schedule, according to FlightAware.
