Ohio State football has dropped five spots in the US LBM Coaches Poll following a 24-23 loss to top-five ranked Texas on Sept. 12.
The Buckeyes entered the road matchup as the No. 1 team in both the Coaches and AP polls. The Longhorns were the 1.5-point favorites, despite being ranked No. 3 in the Coaches Poll and No. 4 in the AP Poll.
Through three quarters, the Buckeyes indeed looked like the higher-ranked team, taking a 23-3 advantage into the final quarter. But Texas' offense came to life while Ohio State's defense began to collapse, and the Longhorns scored three touchdowns and possessed the ball for 10 of the game's final 15 minutes to complete a fourth-quarter comeback.

The victory launched Texas to the No. 1 in the Coaches Poll, bringing the Longhorns back to the top spot for the first time since the 2025 preseason. Texas was knocked from that No. 1 ranking when they lost 14-7 to the Buckeyes at Ohio State to open last season.

Ohio State took a big fall from the No. 1 ranking, dropping to No. 6 in the Coaches Poll with 1,480 total points and zero first-place votes. Texas earned 42 first-place votes and 1,804 total votes.
