Republicans aren't indoctrinating me at OSU
Re "Cirino: Colleges needed civic centers," Sept. 15: I am a third-year student at The Ohio State University, and I believe I have benefited from the Salmon P. Chase Center for Civics.
The Chase Center has been described as a “very Republican” instrument for conservative indoctrination. I have been taking classes with professors from the Chase Center since my sophomore year, and it wasn’t until I was reading the news a handful of weeks ago that I learned it was purported to be a right-wing organization.
In the current class I take, taught by a Chase Center professor, “Economy, Polity, and Community,” we read both Adam Smith and Karl Marx. We have discussions regarding the merits of capitalism and its shortcomings.

If I had to make a rough guess, I’d say roughly three-quarters of my classmates are left-wing, some even going as far as to describe themselves as socialist or Marxist – not exactly uncommon for political science students.
But despite all this, my professor, who is an alleged conservative mouthpiece, has taught the class with such poise and objectivity that I do not even think my classmates have a clue he’s apparently a Republican.
In my experience, these right-wing intellectuals are committed to the ideas of free expression, academic scholarship, and democracy. If there is indoctrination, I have yet to see it.

Unqualified and anti-Ohio
The GOP continues to double down on proven, failed medical policies, making them the party of death to the gullible and ignorant.
Then they try and blame the economic impact of fighting this disease on the Dems for fighting COVID-19. This is what happens when nonmedical people make medical decisions.
We have over 150 years of vaccine success, and the MAGA anti-vaccine behavior is now seeing the failure of that policy. And yet they won't wake up. Even DeWine won't admit Ohio's success is the result of decisions he made based on Amy's advice. 1,000,000+ dead, and how many could have been saved if we had listened?
Most of them DID NOT VAX, DID NOT DISTANCE, DID NOT MASK. And still the GOP denies the fact because they're too proud to admit they were wrong. FAFO. Their reign is ending.

The difference between Acton and Ramaswamy
Ohioans are sick and tired of the lies and political theater that are the Vivek Ramaswamy playbook. Ramaswamy was an early co-leader of DOGE with Elon Musk.
Ohioans are acutely aware of the damage done by the “Department of Government Efficiency.” Why would Ohioans choose a participant in DOGE to be their chief executive?
Look at Ramaswamy’s low-life and grossly inaccurate TV ads. One recent ad has the temerity to blame Amy Acton for our high electric bills. Just how stupid does Ramaswamy think Ohioans are?
Amy Acton will not participate in lies or political theater. She has worked tirelessly in a life of public service. Acton has devoted her campaign to speaking directly to citizens all over our state, detailing her policies in a grassroots effort to truly represent all Ohioans.
Ramaswamy is engaging in lies and political theater in his desperate attempt to buy Ohioans by spending millions on his tawdry and low TV ads. Ohioans are sick and tired of our political space being polluted by tactics like Vivek Ramaswamy’s. Thinking Ohioans applaud Acton for her clear vision representing all Ohioans and her refusal to engage in chaotic politics.
