Construction on the Front Street bridge, which has caused various lane restrictions on one of downtown Columbus' major arteries throughout 2026, is beginning to wrap up, according to an Ohio Department of Transportation spokesperson.
ODOT's contractors are currently installing planters, doing greenscaping and finishing the visual improvements to the Front Street bridge, ODOT spokesperson Hannah Salem said. The Front Street bridge reopened in November after three years of construction, providing downtown commuters with a new route over the interstates as the nearby High Street bridge was half-demolished.
The orange cones and barriers should be removed from the Front Street bridge within "the next couple of weeks," Salem said.
Construction on the
High Street bridge and eventually the 3rd and 4th Street bridges will follow a similar schedule, with the structures first opening to traffic before crews put on the final touches, according to Salem.
The Front Street bridge reconstruction is part of Phase 4R/6R of ODOT's Downtown Ramp Up project, a decade-spanning, $1.4 billion effort to revamp the highways and replace bridges over interstates around downtown Columbus. Phase 4R/6R is expected to be completed by the end of this fall, Salem said.
