A warrant has been issued for a homicide suspect accused of killing a man in what Columbus police say was a domestic incident involving the suspect's ex-girlfriend.
Columbus police responded after 2 a.m. July 28 to an apartment complex in the 2700 block of Brandy Drive on the city's Southeast Side on a report of a shooting. On arrival, officers found Demonty Carter, 22, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Medics transported Carter to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead just before 3 a.m., police said.
According to a criminal complaint filed by city homicide detectives, Darren Cunningham, 23, broke into Carter's apartment looking for his ex-girlfriend. While inside, Cunningham got into an altercation with Carter and the ex-girlfriend,
the complaint states.
Cunningham shot Carter multiple times and then fled the scene, according to detectives.
Homicide detectives have filed a warrant for Cunningham's arrest. As of the evening of July 29, he was not in police custody.
