The Columbus Regional Airport Authority shared a new peek Sept. 2 inside the construction of the John Glenn Columbus International Airport's $2 billion terminal project.
The arrivals and departures roadways connected to the new terminal have been finished, and drivers will soon be able to use the new lower arrivals roadway to get to the existing terminal. Crews are also working to enclose the new terminal and frame its massive skylight, which is larger than two basketball fields, according to a Sept. 2 CRAA announcement.
Traffic around John Glenn Columbus International Airport will see some significant changes Sept. 9 as construction continues, according to the airport authority. A new terminal approach road will open up that day, the cell phone
lot near the rental car center will close, and there will be a new detour out of the parking garage.
The cell phone lot near Lane Aviation remains open and the Green Lot’s one-hour free parking period will remain available for those waiting for a phone call to pick someone up, according to the airport authority.
Construction on the $2 billion terminal project began in December 2024, and airport officials expect it to finish in late 2028 or early 2029. The new facility will have a single security checkpoint and concourse, as opposed to the existing terminal's three checkpoints and concourses. There will be 36 gates in the terminal, including two international gates with on-site customs facilities, according to the airport authority.
