October in Ohio is arguably the ideal time for camping. If the colorful scenery and cool autumn air aren’t enticing enough, consider kicking the camp experience up a notch with Flying Horse Farms’ annual Campfire event happening Oct. 2 in Mount Gilead.
Flying Horse Farms is a medical specialty camp that provides accommodation and removes barriers for children with serious medical conditions who might not otherwise be able to attend camp. Eligible families and kids attend at no cost, so fundraisers like Campfire are vital to the organization’s mission.
Nichole Dunn, CEO of Flying Horse Farms, said Campfire 2026 attendees will be "immersed in camp magic" with the added satisfaction of contributing to a meaningful cause.
“Our theme in the past has
been, ‘We want to make the world more like camp,’” Dunn said. “Just the feeling of what it means to belong somewhere, to have a sense of joy, and that healing is possible no matter where you are.”

During the evening, families who have attended the camp will share their stories. Attendees will also enjoy self-guided tours throughout the camp, live music, a DJ and catering from Cameron Mitchell Restaurants.
General-admission tickets are $250 each, and Bonfire Circle tickets, which include access to the VIP reception, are $1,000 each.
For the previous two Campfire events, Flying Horse Farms has achieved its $1 million fundraising goal, Dunn said. She hopes to hit that number again in 2026.
“One hundred percent of the donations go toward making our mission possible for kids and families to experience camp,” Dunn said.
