Many countries set aside a day each year to celebrate childhood and advocate for the happiness, well-being and promising futures of the next generation.
Dates and traditions vary by country, but a common purpose remains: making children feel special by devoting a special day to them.
CAPA will salute the youngest among us with Día de los Niños/Day of the Children, an annual event that doubles as a celebration of Latino culture, from 1:30-4 p.m. Oct. 11 at the Lincoln Theatre, 769 E. Long St.
The afternoon will begin in the Lincoln Ballroom with balloon art and crafts, dance and instruction by Ballet Folclórico Xochihua, science demonstrations with COSI and an instrument petting zoo with the Columbus Symphony.
Following the cultural and arts activities,
David Gonzalez will present “Cuentos: Tales from the Latinx World.” The award-winning artist’s colorful stories and songs contain positive messages, compelling plots and memorable characters.
Young audience members should listen closely to learn the Spanish words that Gonzalez sprinkles throughout his tales.

Drawings for tickets to local museums, touring shows and other prizes will be held immediately after the show.
Additionally, food will be available for purchase from the Dos Hermanos food truck.
Día de los Niños was launched by CAPA’s Education and Engagement Department in 2023 as an extension of Festival Latino.
All activities are free, but advance registration at tickets.capa.com is required for admission.
