By landing their first song on the Billboard Hot 100 in nearly eight years, Weezer is proving that after three decades, they won’t just “Go Away.”
Instead of being relegated to the annals of dad rock, the band’s music has captured a fan base of young online creators and consumers who drove the resurgence of a 12-year-old song.
Thanks to viral success on TikTok, “Go Away” was Weezer’s first Hot 100 entry since their 2018 cover of Toto’s “Africa.” The song reappeared in April and remains in the top five on Weezer’s Spotify page.
The tune’s popularity earned it a spot on Weezer’s setlist for “The Gathering” tour, coming to Nationwide Arena
on Oct. 6. It’ll be a return visit for the LA foursome, who performed at the arena in 2024. The Shins and Silversun Pickups will open.

Weezer was formed in 1992, and played their first gig closing for Keanu Reeves' band, Dogstar.
The group’s name comes from a childhood nickname given to front man Rivers Cuomo by his father, the singer shared in a 2022 guest spot on "Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend."
During the podcast, Cuomo told O'Brien that his father dubbed him "Wheezer" after a character on "The Little Rascals." When asked why, the elder Cuomo was said to have replied, "He's the cool one."
And thus, a band name was born.
In addition to Cuomo, who plays guitar and keyboards, Weezer's lineup since 2001 has featured drummer Patrick Wilson; Brian Bell on guitar, keyboards and vocals; and Scott Shriner on bass, keyboards and vocals.
