A man already spending life in prison for killing a woman and setting her body on fire now faces charges in a nearly decade-old double homicide.
A grand jury indicted Yussuf A. Yussuf, 31, on charges of aggravated murder, murder and aggravated robbery, in connection to the Jan. 23, 2017, deaths of Caleb Killen and Jawuan Reynolds, both 22.
Reynolds and Killen died after being found shot inside Reynolds' car, which was parked outside a building on the 3700 block of Eakin Road in the Wedgewood Village apartment complex.
Reynolds, an aspiring rapper who went by the stage name of Fam Staxx, and Killen were best friends.
The Dispatch reported at the time
of the killings that a 911 caller told police someone tried to set the car on fire but ran away.
A second suspect in the double homicide, Paul Smith, 26, pleaded guilty to felonious assault in September. His sentencing is scheduled for November.
In April, Yussuf was sentenced to life in prison with no opportunity for parole in connection with the June 2021 strangulation death of his girlfriend, Jenay Crawley, 23, whose body was found set on fire near the village of Urbancrest.
Yussuf is currently being held in the North Central Correctional Institution.
Crawley, who shared a child with Yussuf, had gone to Yussuf's West Side apartment on the night she died to drop off their child, court records say. Crawley had been on the phone with a friend and was upset about having to go inside instead of Yussuf coming outside to get the child.
