A former charter school teacher will spend time in jail after admitting to having an inappropriate relationship with one of her teenage students.
Jamelah Daboubi, 28, pleaded guilty on Aug. 10 to gross sexual imposition and unlawful sexual conduct with a minor.
Franklin County Common Pleas Court Judge Kimberly Cocroft ordered Daboubi to spend six months in jail and serve five years of community control, often called probation.
Daboubi will also be required to register as a Tier II sexual offender every 180 days for 25 years.
According to court records, Daboubi had an inappropriate relationship with one of her teenage students while she worked as a teacher at Horizon Science Academy Columbus High School, a charter school.
The teenager's mother called
police in April 2025 after finding her son in Daboubi's car, which was parked outside their home. Court records say the woman approached the car, saw her son in the passenger seat and saw Daboubi "jump off of" his lap.
The teen admitted to detectives he'd been having a relationship with Daboubi, who was his English teacher, court records say. Text messages on the teenager's phone also confirmed the relationship.
Daboubi was removed from her position at the school and put on administrative leave following her arrest before being fired.
